I decided the best way to understand Tulsa was simply to walk around and ask people about it.  Naturally you can’t really grab people off the street and start interrogating them about the city, so I started by getting a haircut on the far side of town, then stopping by a liquor store, a small cafe with gothic ceilings, and then finally a security guard at international banking center in the middle of the town.  I learned about everything from the city’s history of racial conflict to the simple realities of living in a town prone to tornados ripping through the streets.
