You’re taught to think of it as invasion. Littering, waste, spoiling the natural. If one is to coexist with the natural, then you must leave no trace. But when will our world and our lives cease to be natural. If the beaver can fell trees for a dam then can’t we build our houses and leave our residue. Moderation is key, of course. But we move through these spaces and it’s naïve to think we wont leave a mark on them. We should be conscious of these marks, even when they’re ‘pointless’, made just for the sake of our own little egos. Someone was here. Someone will be here again. It’s more than careless violence. It’s creating an ephemeral history, that may never be seen, that may wash away or may draw us back to that space, wondering who came before.
