Most Habitat for Humanity Restore outlets are full of reused materials and I went to a New York location a year and a half ago to search out some goods for an installation project. Instead of a typical Restore, it was a standard thrift store. No materials at all. But I found these beautiful boots, they were in pristine condition. I bought them up quickly for $20. I have wore these almost everyday since the purchase. The wear and tear they exhibit holds many of my stories. Perhaps this is why it is always difficult for me to get rid of shoes or clothes or anything that has spent a significant amount of time in my life. Today they were covered in mud from the country roads of eastern Colorado. Tomorrow the mud will be gone, but that will memory will somehow imbue these old boots with one more recollection.
