Ronaldo Rael described Antonito, Colorado as being a hard place to grow up, where each person seemed to have built all that they had and stayed for good. One stays in the place where all of their emotional baggage and their mother's and father's and grandparent's emotional baggage lingered. Ron and his mother spoke of Cano, who built a castle out of aluminum leftovers, not as the case study of a sociological experiment but as a family member who they and most people in the town could not help but love. The people in our van do not come from backgrounds of magical realism but all that we saw in Antonito was magic.
