The valley runs on water.  The people as well as the landscape are so closely integrated with this force of nature that after these few days, it is difficult to imagine one without the other.  The cloud patterns, another aspect that seem to set this area apart from most everywhere else, are also integral to the imaginary image.  A cattle rancher took the time to show us how he worked a massive irrigation system by hand, using a traditional method involving pipes.  He managed this entirely by himself, and embodied the work ethic required to live here as well as the reliance on water.
