What I came to realize while at the alien watch tower in Hooper, CO, is that it reflects and speaks to other humans more so than to life outside our own. To the side of the tower is a field of little personal objects, arranged together; offerings visitors have left for the aliens who visit as well as for each other. Here I saw things like children's toys, bracelets, pipes, alien figurines, and even someone's debit card. Though the quest to contact life outside of our planet is the theme of this location, I felt that it grounded us back to earth, and back to humanity, more than anything. This field of donated treasures was a mirror reflecting ourselves back. And sure, if aliens come there, they may see it all and think humans to be a bunch of toy obsessed fashionistas. But those people who visit can see themselves. Or something.
