Road Reads

Arriving in Williston, North Dakota was seamlessly paired with a New York Times reading about the unusual, swift circumstances brought by the booming oil industry. It is one thing to read about a place you have never been and another to arrive somewhere new only relying on your surroundings to make inferences. The drilling and fracking process, explained in accessible detail became a reality as we drove past dozens of sites of bowing oil rigs, aligned containers, and suspended balls of flame highlighting an inefficient system where disregarded waste is at the expense of fast money. The combination of both resulted in a profound, informed experience with an incredibly unfamiliar place.
