Saturday I left for the mountains. Just a little over night trip. I was a relieving feeling just to know I would be visiting a space that has always brought me so much comfort and relief. Normally when I visit the mountains, I compare the difference between the summer and winter plant life and so on but on this trip I found myself comparing everything to the ecology of Byers. The different style of the road and how there are trees everywhere. The different noises of animals in the early morning and the smell that travels with the breeze. Comparing the two spaces has helped me find beauty to some of the elements of Byers that were previously disorienting. I am looking forward to venturing into Kansas this upcoming week with fresh eyes, ready to take on the majesty of the plains as they come.
